Am I right that the Earth has been relatively not too far from Mars recently? First I thought this very bright orangeish star might have been an airliner or something else but when I looked it up online it mentioned Mars (the nearest distance between the planets sometime end of October/beginning of November).
I'm no astronomer and haven't even managed to look through binoculars at it. I know I can just download photos of it off the internet but just wondering if anyone has their own telescope/what results or photos they might have got from observing it in the previous month.

It has been very close, I took some photos the other night I need to dig out. On full telephoto, 6MP blown up on the screen, you get a bright red circle with the moons orbiting it. On my photo you can see it's half light and half dark.

Yeah I have noticed how clear it appears in the sky lately... I used to be an astronomy geek when I was a kid. It might not be as close as it was a couple of months ago, but the magnitude is certainly brighter than it has ever been in a while. It looks very unique in the sky. Not quite like anything else that shines at night
