The other thread went way off course, but then again it is A.net. Anyhow, I was fortunate enough to go to hear Mike Reiss speak tonight. For those of you who have not heard of him (neither did I until tonight), Mike Reiss is one of the main Simpsons writers.
He started off talking about Jews in comedy, hence this post. He talked about how comedy comes naturally for Jews and compared it to Russians liking Chess and Greeks liking other Greeks (as a joke). He said that a show like the Simpsons is about 50% Jewish, which is low on average. King of the Hill, about small town America/rednecks, is almost entirely Jewish he said. As for the Simpsons, he said that three of the main voices are Jewish. Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Apu, Moe, Chief Wiggum, Principle Skinner, Otto, Mr. Burns, Marge are all done by Jews.
Krusty, the main Jewish character on the show, is done by an Italian. While the Italian chef is done by a Jew.
