Hi guys,

i want to start a general thread form myself, so that I don't need to open another thread for every problem.

I had some rejections last night. Bus as I these were my first night shots, I was more or less expecting it.
I am already happy that the colours were allright!

But I do have some questions where I need your help:

This one was rejected for:
contrast level (needs CE rotation) personal
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...53249929.7298img_4043_crop_air.jpg

Contrast: Yes, okay. Soft: Well yes, can someone tell me where it is soft?
But why does it need a CW rotation? I adjusted the levels looking at the lamp posts and it seems allright for me.

This one was rejected for levels as well (and also for soft and contrast).
I can understand it in this case, but where do I need to orientate myself in this case in order to have a correct level?
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...3250028.8448img_4072_d_cropair.jpg

I am looking forward to your responses in order to improve my night shots.
I am still learning.

Many thanks!

regards

Jay

I can see a little CW (not CE?) to level the verticals, and definitely some more contrast.

Not really any reference points for level, so I don't think there is much to base it on, though I admit it would look better with CCW rotation.

Both images would benefit from being submitted at a smaller size as well.

Hi,

many thanks for your response. CE was a tiping mistake, sorry for that, I meant CW of course.

I took care of your advice and adjusted my pictures.

Here is the new version of the Lufthansa:
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...4051735.173img_4043_a1cropanet.jpg

and here the new version of the Niki:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...847.9487img_4072_cropair_final.jpg

and yes I agree that the level looks better now.

Are they allright now? Is the contrast okay?

Regards

Jay

To be honest, the light on the LH was never that great to begin with, so it will be borderline no matter what you do with it. The Niki looks ok now.

I have a question on this one:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...53708319.5156img_4132_cropanet.jpg

Does it need more contrast, too?

Contrast should be ok, but if possible give it a bit of ccw rotation and place it slightly higher in the frame.

I just had another rejection:

Reason: blue cast:
http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...135621.4199img_4089a1_pla1anet.jpg

It was not mentioned in the first rejection, but anyway I do see the point. Also I think it has only slightly a blue cast.

How do you see it?
What would bei the best way to remove the blue cast?

I am thankful for some help.

Regards,

Jay

Yes, the aircraft in the photo looks a bit blue to me, I would edit the whitebalance in the raw file. If you only have a jpeg, try editing the color balance.

Here is the new version

Does it still has a colour cast?

I think it looks better now.

Any other issues that came up with my new edit?

Thanks again!

Tough one...still looks a little green/cyan, but not too bad. Other than that, you've done pretty well for a night shot.

HI Dana,

thanks for your nice comment!

I made another slight change to the colour balance and hopefully it is passable now
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...76067.2248img_4089a1_pla1anet3.jpg

I think at least the green cast is almost gone now.

I will delete yesterday's version shortly. I just left it in the upload queue to have a comparison.

Whites still don't look quite white. If you want to send me the original, I can give it a try.

Hi,

just got this picture rejected:
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...5578919.0629img_0369-anetfinal.jpg

Reason: low in frame.

Do you really consider this as being low in frame?

I wanted to ask this question for quite a time now: for me the tail is part of the aircraft, too. So in this case it would be centered as it is. Only if you just look at the fuselage it could be considered low in frame.
Otherwise there is roughly the same space above and under the aircraft.

So should I focus the centering (crop) more on the fuselage?

Thanks

What about the levels?
Is the light in the BA-titles disturbing?

I reduced the saturation, because I felt the colours looked too strong before. Possibly this was a mistake and is the reason why it looks washed out?

And I did brighten it to some extent to avoid a dark rejection.
