I have noticed that during the last two mayor mergers in the US the pace to repaint the intire fleet has been very fast... ( compared with previous ) DL merged the entire NW fleet into a new paint scheme a lot quickerthan the WA merger even when NW had more acft.

UA is doing the same thing with only a handfull of Tulips left on the entire combined fleet.... Can someone indicate why it is so mouch faster today than 20 years ago?

More facilities to paint aircraft at.
United is using places in California, Texas, the southeast.... and maybe even Asia during heavy check.

Also, Delta had a horribly mixed up fleet at the time of the merger; there were planes sporting the 1998 paint job, the Wavy Gravy, the new-new, and maybe even Song schemes, along with Northwest's bowling shoe and silver bullet paints. They were in bad need of quick unification in the first place; the merger just provided the impetus to get it done.

With UA, the entire CO fleet was already painted, and only required retitling. Much of UA's legacy fleet (and Skywest's CRJs) were in the already six-year-obsolete battleship, which looked horrendous after six years with no touchup efforts. Back in the day when CO was a horrid airline, Gordon Bethune stepped in, and one of his main points was that the wretched fleet needed to be made to match, and look good. That mentality has continued into the new UA, in my opinion.
The only holdups with the UA repaints seem to be 747s and 763s. Everything else is nearly done!

Are there plans at DL to end up with ONE livery instead of multiple liveries at the same time that we have been seeing??
