I was just listening to LAX ATC, and heard that there must be a runway inspection whenever an A380 departs 24L due to the runway width. They also mentioned that this is not the case for 25L, since it is a wider runway. Is this true?
If so, I'm assuming 25L is the preferred departure runway?

Does this also hold true for A380 arrivals?

Thanks.

The issue is potential FOD from the infield on either side of 24L. The #1 and #4 engines are far enough out on the wing to kick up stuff during the takeoff roll, particularly at rotation.

25L has become the preferred departure runway. Using 25L also minimizes surface movement restrictions as the 380 taxies for departure.

For 380 ops from gate 101, the favored taxi route is westbound on C, crossing 25R/L at T, then eastbound along A to the departure end.

I haven't noticed inspections being conducted purposely around 380 arrivals (I'll have to take a look one day). I suspect that due to the lower weight and thrust settings for landing, the answer to your question is no.

Not saying that isn't true, but I see 380 takeoffs from 24L all the time. Shot AF taking off from 24L yesterday, even though it was at the gate on the south side of TBIT. Was sort of curious about that.

'Preferred' in the sense that a 25L departure has the least impact on surface movements (aircraft and vehicular) versus a departure via other runways.
