First I'm curious as to how accurate the panel is in the picture below. Second, I'm open to criticism for what I'm doing wrong on this instrument approach.

I don't know what you mean by what you are doing wrong on this approach, but it looks like you are flying in 0-0 visibility.

He's way off.
Notice on the ILS indicator, he is way off to the right.

What you are doing wrong here? Well, you are squawking 1200 when you're flying into what look like IMC thus not VFR ...1200 is for VFR use. This should be in the hobby forum!

I'm not a pilot.....but I can tell you a few things about the panel.

1) There is no Y/D off legend on the L-1011. Yaw damp is called YAW SAS.
2)At 800ft. R/A, there would be more legends displayed on the AFCS Modes annunciator.
3)There is no A/T engage switch shown...It would be engaged on an ILS appr.
4)The V/S indicator (on the a/p engage panel) shows VSI rate during approach, so it should show -900 ft/min.(Not 100% sure on this one)
5)Flaps 42 was deactivated on L-1011's years ago...Max is 33.
6)At flaps 33, DLC would be engaged, so the inboard spoiler indicators would be up a little (to the top of the white band).
7)The FCS Alert should read "Instrument Comparator"
8)There is no Flight Director.
9)Wouldn't Nav2 be the same as Nav1 on this approach? (Again, I'm not a pilot)
10) There should be some switches below the HSI for instrument switching.

There are quite a few indicators and controls out of place, So I assume they are for FlightSim.

I don't know what your looking at. But his HSI indicates he's pretty much on the localizer, but just slightly off to the right. And he's slightly below the Glide slope. But what do you mean by the ILS indicator? I've looking for what your talking about and can't find it.

DL_Mech, you are right. Nav 1 and Nav 2 should be the same. The reason I do not have the AT engaged is because there is a bug in my FS install that causes the throttle to constanty increase and decrease and it drives me nuts. I've been doing the throttles manually. Thanks for your input.

Don't know about you, but I haven't seen too many pilots hanging out in the Hobby Forum lately. Secondly, maybe there should be a "Forum Cop Forum". That way, guys like you could hang out in there and discuss how important and clever you are with each other. Heck, then you could start topics like "How Did You Become a Forum Cop" or "Which Forum Cop Academy Did You Attend".

Coronado, nah, it's not a blizzard. The appoach is to Tucson RWY 11L. I just had the weather set to overcast with 1/4 mile vis. By the way, does your username refer to the CV-990?

Looks like your mag compass (look,its in the windshield centerpost) is fried; I'd abort and tell approach I want "start turn-stop turn" instructions and then head off to the flightsim forum where you are safe from real pilots.

ThirtyEcho, thanks for the pointer. I'm looking for the Flightsim Forum....can't seem to find it. ..where you are safe from real pilots. Does this mean that I'm in inherent danger of some sort? If so, what sort of mortal hazards should I watch out for when amongst the company of "real" pilots? More to follow, pending your response.

Rate of decent looks a little agressive. 500' per is less stessfull on the pax.

You're right, Metwrench. In the pic below, at about 280' AGL, the rate has slowed to about 600. Touch down was around 300 fpm.

TWAL1011 - Yes Coronado = CV-990A. Great memories on 2 flights on Varig (on the aircraft they had inherited when they took over REAL) from Rio-GIG to Miami in 1965 (on one occasion connecting to a DL CV-880 to ORD for a really fast trip!). Not too long after that RG disposed of the Coronado's keeping an all 707-320C long haul fleet. I had a chance to revisit the old friend in winter of 74-75 when I booked a Spantax 990 charter from Germany to Mallorca (I was stationed in Europe at the time jumping out of perfectly good airplanes). Spantax appearance and service not up to the RG standards but it was good to re-visit. Gone but not forgotten.

Coronado, I envy that you had the chance to fly on a 990. Not many can claim that.

I'm relatively certain that a descent rate of 800-900 ft per min. is normal while coupled to the glideslope on a standard precision approach (3-4 deg angle) prior to flare.

Agree about the descent rate. Haven't flown L1011s but am surprised to see a deck angle of just less than horizontal, with full flaps. The L1011 has one of the most pronounced nose-up attitudes on the approach, the DLC keeps it constant, so the pax wouldn't care!

Also with an OAT of 52 degrees, probably don't need any anti/de-ice??

Musang, your right about the deck angle. That's one of two complaints I have with this particular plane. The other is that it's way overpowered. Takeoff roll is only about 8 seconds and it'll climb at 4,000 fpm right up to FL260. Oh well, it is only flight simulation.
