Do they ever use rwy 9/27 for commercial aircraft? Just curious.

Hey, Bondo: Sure. Rwy 9/27 is 7,000 feet long, so it can handle many jets on take-off, and even heavies for landing. 9 is used only for take-offs, over Winthrop/Boston Harbor, since landing over the skyscrapers of downtown isn't the easiest thing on earth.

Logan's right here (of all people, I'd expect someone with that username to know! Big grin). I have listened to Boston Ground/Tower several times within the last week or so and often 27 was used for landings. 7000 feet is plenty of pavement for even a widebody at typical landing weight.
