A3XX-FMC/MDCU/FMGS

Good evening A.net,

I keep getting mixed up with the following, need your help and guidance. What are the following(using definitions please), in regards to the A3XX.

FMC- Flight management computer

MDCU- Multi functional control and display unit

FMGS- Flight management and guidance system

WHAT ARE THEY??

I know the basics.....

FMC ?

MDCU- where the pilot enters the flight data, weights etc(situated on either side of the throttle quadrant)???

FMGS- computer converts what has been inputted into the MDCU by the pilot and applies it to the control surfaces when needed???

If I'm not mistaken, FMC is Boeing's equivalent of the MCDU, so it's not an Airbus term.

You may be thinking of the FMS which is the Flight Management System. The FMS controls the autopilot, autothrottle, etc.

FMGS stands for Flight Management Guidance Envelope System, but I don't know the details of it's function.
