Airbus Model Number Decoding

I have been trying to find the information about Airbus model
numbers and the significance of last 2 digits. I know the first one is the
series number as in A321-1xx and A321-2xx. I also remember that one of the Xs are engine type as in CFM, IAE or PW.

Someone from another list mentioned that

1st digit = model series
2nd digit = engine manufacturer:

0= GE, 1=CFM, 2=Pratt, 3=IAE, 4=Rolls
3rd digit = model sub-type.

A320-232 = Airbus A320-200 type/sub-type 2 w/IAe engines.

What's the meaning of subtypes? Different generations? different MGTW?

Engine subtype.

You can find all this with a search, the list is extensive and long.
