Hi
in advance to my BA LHR-YYZ trip this month I checked the registration numbers at http://www.caa.co.uk/ginfo
Now I'm wondering about one thing:
BA got 747-400s between 1989 and 1999. All aircraft have an MTOW of around 396000 except the aircrafts build in 95 and 96. These planes have an MTOW of just 381000.
What is different with them?

BA along with several other airlines operate what Boeing termed the B747-400 "Lite" aircraft.
These are similar to other -400 series except the tail fuel tank is deactivated along with having a lower take off weight.
Overall a good concept for shorter routes that require the -400 capacity, while not incurring higher navigation/landing fees which are often based on the aircraft takeoff weight.
