Someone said that TN's trend of selling J and F seats to programs is part of their business model. How does that work?

And if its a lucrative thing to do, why wouldnt QF take advantage?

Quoting Mirrodie (Thread starter):

Did you mean to post this in Civil Aviation?
Most of us here are unaware that there is any airplane aft of the cockpit door or above the deck. Now, with direct payroll deposit (without the name on a check twice a month) few of us are even aware that there are such things as corporations behind these fleets of airplanes all painted the same.

Seriously, it would probably get quicker answers there.

Interesting. How do you think that cockpit moves forward & gets into the air?

I really don't care. I flip a few switches, punch some buttons, recite a mantra or two from a checklist, push the loud-handles up and my end of the airplane goes to Jamaica.
What do I care if a bunch more seats and people follow me?

Well, I believe that if Mirrodie (a forum moderator BTW) really wanted an answer to his question he'd have put it in Civil Aviation like I suggested, and he'd have put it there to begin with. Witness 187 reads and 0 replies on that topic.

Therefore I think I'm going to evacuate this thread topic.

Wow, and here I would have thought the well informed answers should come from the professionals, not armchair anthrolopogists.

0 replies is fine.
100 replies from an ill-formed speculating population is pointless.

Appreciate the advice Slam, but this forum is for "...The more advanced forum for those of you who want to dig deeper into technical issues as well as airline management and operations. A forum for both professionals and knowledgeable amateurs"

I'll stick to my guns and hope to gain knowledge here, not speculative commentary there.

You'll be hoping for a long time. Rarely, if ever, is there are a airline marketing thread in "Tech/Ops".

Good Luck.....

I guess Im being misread here.

Trying to understand the concept of the original question and its feasibility.

I will start a thread in civ about TN in general. Maybe I'll touch on the subject at hand.

But we'll see the knowledgeable gotten there.

Sorry pard, but I utterly and completely do not understand the question. I could only glean that it had something to do with marketing.

In my experience very few people have knowledge that crosses over between technical/operational and marketing/economics.

If I gave an answer to your question (instead of just wiseass remarks) it would be as speculative as anything the Civil Aviation forum ever hosted.

I'll put an end to Mirrodie's misery J/K...

Someone said that TN's trend of selling J and F seats to programs is part of their business model. How does that work?

*ARMCHAIR CEO MODE=ON*

U mean selling their F & J class seats as part of certain premium holiday packages to tour operators?

If so, how does it work? Well, simple, it's just like chartering a 30 seater biz aircraft....

Lucrative? Yes...
A Gold mine? No... U loose out on getting the best yields as it will be a 3 way bargain between TN, the package vendor and the customer.. U're basically selling capacity for a discount for cash upfront... Just like what BWIA used to do a lot of.
Why do it? Better cashflow predictability...

Why TN does it? Well, you gotta fly at least 6hrs to get there from almost anywhere... and it's not exactly a cheap destination.

Why wouldn't QF do it? QF's F & J are mainly for business travel between business destinations. QF's primary business is not getting luxury holidaymakers to Oz... Nor does it specialize in sending luxury holiday makers elsewhere in an easily packageable manner.

*ARMCHAIR CEO MODE=OFF

Now if the answer I gave is acceptable, put Slamclick out of misery and move this to Gen_Av where we can then have a laugh...  Smile J/K guys  Smile
