I was reading Gordon Bethune's book, and he was talking about how Boeing engineers suggested a new start control panel with 2 switches for the 737NG instead of the current 8-switch model.

So my questions is. What 8 switches do you have to press, and how do you start a 737 engine from step 1 to whenever...

Position the engine start switch to "GRD" and at 20/25% N2 RPM position the engine start lever to idle, those things below the thrust levers. That's it.

Don't forget you need bleed pressure...  Smile Switch the APU on first and set the bleed feed  Smile

I dunno, there was a mention in 'From Worst to First' about a current 8 switch model.

Maybe he is referring to the whole startup from cold, dark, quiet airplane to ready-to-fly, including starting the APU. In that case if it can be done with only eight switches that is not bad.
