Hi,
As far as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a commercial pilot. I am now training for my private pilots license, but I am not sure if I would fit in the lifestyle of a pilot. This topic is intended for commercial pilots. What is it like to be a commercial pilot? Do you ever get sick of your job? I have heard that it is near impossible for many pilots to get married and have a family. Is this all true? What is it really like? Do pilots love their job?

It is possible to have a family and be an airline pilot. However the divorce rate is VERY high. (some guys just can't keep their hands off the Flight Attendants).
You will spend alot of time in hotels (12 days this month).
I love my job, as do most, but you would never know that by listening to us talk. Pilots complain more than anyone.
I don't get sick of my job, but it can be boring at times. The days can be long, 14-15 hours a day on duty are possible (16hrs max). With senority comes days off, 16-18 a month are possible.
Recurrent training (ground school and simulator) keeps us proficient.
My wife tells me "you don't have a job, you have a hobby that pays well".

I would suggest checking out www.jetcareers.com......it will answer many of your questions. I'd be happy to take the time to answer any questions you have left after you have spent some time there. The guy who runs that site is a Delta pilot and it's a great place for wannabes to do some research.
