MD11 Engine Check

I was always wondering how the pilot can make a visual check of engine no.2 in a md11 / dc10 . Thank you.

I would presume a ladder of something of that sort. What about a periscope?

From what I recall, No. 2 engine does't get a detailed inspection except from maintenance staff when the bird goes to the hanger. All the pilot does is check for signs of leaks/damage visable from the ground and monitor vital signs during start up. Same goes for the 727 and L1011.
