DC-8-30 Icao Code

I had originally posted this question in the Hobbies section, since my interest in the DC-8-30 stems from flying it in Flight Simulator. However, I have been unable to get an answer there, so I thought I would try again here. I have been searching for a few weeks now for the ICAO code for the DC-8-30 aircraft. The best I can come up with is DC8H, but that appears to be referring to the entire line of DC-8 aircraft.

Does anyone know where I might be able to locate the code for the actual -30 model? I'm not positive, but I think my trouble with finding the code may stem from the fact that none of that model are still flying. At least I cannot locate any examples still flying. Anything that can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

The code will be listed in either the SRM or DPS if you can find a copy with the -30 effectivity.

Can't remember what the type designator was for the -30. But Appendix A of the current version of ATC 7110.65 (rev. R) lists:

DC-8-50 as "DC85"
DC-8-60 as "DC86"
DC-8-70 as "DC87"

So possibly a DC-8-30 was "DC83"? I dunno. Can't remember. Too many intervening margaritas.

Thanks for the help! I was unaware of that document G4LASRamper, and I think I'll have to hang onto that. A LOT of information there that I haven't come across before (I'm a bit of a data freak  ashamed  ). I had also come up with the DC85, DC86, and DC87 codes, and had postulated that DC83 may be the one I want, but I don't want to commit to it without something to back it up. Unfortunately that "something" is proving to be annoyingly elusive.

Avioniker, I'm afraid I am not familiar with the terms "SRM" or "DPS." Could you possibly elaborate? Those aren't more $880 books like Jane's All the World's Aircraft that I'm currently drooling over (and putting on my Christmas "yeah-right" wish list), are they?

I had come across that list as well Zeke. Unfortunately it doesn't mention anything prior to the -50 model. There are a handful of options that I could give up and just settle on (DC8H, DC83, DC8), but I'd still like to find out if there is/was a code for the -30 model.  Smile It's one of those things that's going to drive me nuts until I find out what it is.

I'm sorry. I thought you were referring to the DAC Fuselage/Wing type code used to designate construction type.
Were you referring to the wake code? If so the -30 precedes the standardization of that system at ICAO so it would most likely be an H as well as all the other 8's.
SRM stands for Structural Repair Manual and DPS stands for Douglas Process Standards. These are (were) books that specified repair and manufacturing details to keep planes in service without bothering the engineering departments of the respective manufacturers every time you ding an airplane.

I apologize if I was not clear enough in my original question. I am actually looking for the 4-character ICAO aircraft type identifier (B744 for Boeing 747-400 aircraft, DC86 for DC-8-60 aircraft, etc) ,for the DC-8-30 model. Now you mentioned that the -30 predates the standardization of ICAO's wake code system, so is it possible that there actually is no type code for the -30 either? If that is the case, then I suppose I will have to be content with using the generic DC8H code.

As mentioned above with the 7110.65, mine doesnt have anything having to do with a Dc-8-30, only those listed above.

I have had another look at ICAO DOC 8643 which is the offical register of types (http://www.icao.int/anb/ais/8643/index.cfm)

Seems the DC8 passenger model code has been deleted, so I think the current official code would be ZZZZ with a remark being made on the flight plan /TYPE DC-8-30

Thanks again Zeke. I was hoping to find the actual code since I have lately been simulating some Pan Am flights from the late 60's, but I'll settle for what you've found. Thanks again everyone, and hopefully I'll be able to answer some questions myself in the future.  Smile
