I was just at the MRO conference in Atlanta on April 17th and 18th. There I met a gentleman whom I believed was the top dog at Delta Tech Ops. He gave me his business card, but check this out.
I had stored all my business cards collected at the convention in a side pocket of my leather bag. Inside the bag was a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol. When I got home and unloaded the bag, the alcohol was in the side pocket with the cards and leaking none the less.
The only thing I can think of is TSA turned my bag upside down and repacked it. Pretty thorough inspection! But unfortunately the Delta Tech Ops boss's card was missing.
Anyone know the name of this gentleman? I think his first name was Dan or Tim.

The VP of Delta Tech Ops is Tony Charaf. Most of the mechanics have very little trust in him. During the lead up to Chpt 11 he made quite a few statements that were very foolish. A good example is the TPA hangar. Less than a month before they announced the closing they were still transfering guys from the closed DFW hangar and saying don't worry, "TPA is not on our radar." That decision was not made overnight. A better statement would have been, 'At this point everything is being looked at.'

We also wonder how he kept his job after he botched the outsourcing of the MD88 and 767/757 fleets. Both contracts ran into a bunch of cost problems very quickly. As of late he doesn't say so much to the rank and file. His monthly internal call in show is pretty low keyed. On the plus side he has been able to grow the insourcing for Tech Ops and found a way to keep the 777 checks in house as well as some of the mod work. This allowed him to recall 700 mechanics.

This guy ruined one of the finest maintenance organizations in a few short weeks. He booted all the managers that actually knew how to do their jobs and kept the suck up ,yes boys. These long time Delta Employees "retirements, or decisions to move on" were announced with hand written faxes that looked like 3 yr old wrote them. All the while telling the DFW Mechanics, that were being displaced when DFW closed, that TPA had 100's of openings, go ahead and move to TPA and then they closed TPA a month later! Fine examples of his respect for his employees! We all can see the results of the decisions his suck-up, yes boys helped him make. All mistakes paid for with the careers and lively hoods of thousands of Tech-Ops employees.
