I was wondering, since the MD-11 basically has the old DC-10 wings with some winglets attached to it (to make it look more modern then the DC-10, I have been told) , how come Fedex has not yet attached winglets to their extensive MD-10 fleet?

Just a thought

Probably because it would cost more to certify than it's worth. Also, the wings would probably need reinforcement.

Then again, here's a DC-10 with winglets for ya:

The MD-11 wing is not the DC-10 wing... despite rumors to the contrary. MD-11 winglets simply wouldn't fit. You would need to design and devlope new winglets for the MD-10 fleet. As small as that fleet is, I can't see the costs ever bring returned.
