Question About TZ's New DC-10

Hello,

I was just looking at the photo of ATA's beautiful "new" DC-10 and I noticed something...Take a look first at her in Northwest Airlines colours and then again in ATA's colours:

In front of the nose landing gear doors, I see the standard air intake devices; however, on the ATA bird, I now see an additional intake device that was not present before. What is this device? Is it unique to ATA?

The additional air intake you see is actually the "forward avionics bay door", which happens to be open on the ATA photo.

That would be correct. If you look carefully enough on the NWA picture, you'll see that the avionics bay door is closed.
