I was out at the airport today and noticed that the few Piper airplanes that I saw had stabilators instead of regular elevators. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the advantage of this would be? Thank you

From what I've noticed flying both Piper's (Archers and Arrows) and aircraft with standard stabilizer/eleveators (172's, 182's, and Citabrias), the stabilator gives the pilot greater control authority, this reduces the "weight" of the elevator. The yoke forces on the Piper products are featherweight compared to some cessna products (a full-flap go around in a 182 will have you pushing with both hands if she's out of trim, the Arrow is considerably lighter).
Not that I have such varied knowlage, only having flown the PA28 series and the Cessna singles, so take it for what its worth.
