Just spent some lovely days in the PDX (Portland Or)area.
On my departure I could see some big hangar buildings.
My question is, which of the bigger (or name them all)US airliners have line maintenance or base? maintenance there.

Not really a maintenance base but FedEx gets quite a few of it's 727's painted at PDX by AvEx, which I would assume would require a large hangar or two.

Yep, AvEx (AMC ?) have 2 large hangars (a 747-400 will fit in them) that were originally going to be used for heavy maint on the far SW area of the airport, right off of the end of Runway 3/21. One is being used all the time for United Express (I can't remember their Regional Partner here...) as a maint facilities for their Turboprops. Also the owner of Evergreen Internatioal (EZ) uses part of that same one as storage for his personal aircraft collection. The other is a paint hangar, I've seen FedEx, JAL, NW to name a few in there getting new paint jobs.
Horizon (QX) completed a newer maint facility a couple of years ago, but I don't know how intensive it is.
The airport just built a ground run-up enclosure hoping to draw more maint bases in but who knows.
Sorry I rambled a bit...hope it helped.

is that a light at the end of the tunnel or just a train?

SkyWest Airlines is the United Express carrier in PDX and yes, we use the southernmost large hangar for maintenance.

Delta has a line station at pdx. It is shrinking now with the end of asian flights out of pdx.

I believe the Horizon maintenance facility is QX's main facility...

Yep, PDX is our largest MTX facility. Alaska have a decent sized line maintenance base here as do United. And as mentioned above, Delta have a small one and Sky West have a fair sized MTX hub here too.
