folks, maybe s/o has an idea: why aren't any 767, especially those operated on long hauls, equipped with winglets, as a wide number of 757 got those, eg flying over the big pond (CO,US,DL,NW , all those opearte 757 with winglets).
I know that especially on hot days the 767 can not operate n/s from the US westcoast into central Europe, as I have been on a 767 DE flight last summer from LAS to FRA (had to refuel @ GANDER), when taking off at LAS it was 100+ Fahrenheit. Could winglets increase the range? Or is it "just" the mtow which does not allow such nonstops ? Thanks, Chris

APB will use one 763ER from AA from January 2008, and flight test it with winglets for eight months. DL have also ordered winglets for a bunch of 763ERs, with first delivery in March 2009.

It can for instance increase range, due to a lower fuel burn, or increase payload over the same distance, and possibly also increase the initial cruise altitude.

OS is the first European airline to begin fitting wingets to their 763 fleet.
