The CVR CB is pulled out post last flight of the day on our B757s,while stays in during all in between Transit halts,On the B737 its pulled at end of every Sector.
Whats the SOP at your Airline & any reason for this.

It's been noted in a few Canadian TSB reports that the CVR has been useless in some incident investigations since it looped over the recorded event (runway overrun, IIRC). I suspect in a few years we'll see a checklist item added to preserve this evidence.

CARS (Canadian regs) now require a 120 minute CVR for all aircraft manufactured after 2003, approximately. Otherwise, even with 30 minute CVRs, I've never heard of pulling the CB. I can't see the point, unless your airline uses the CVR for purposes other than accident investigation. At our airline, the pilots contract specifies that the company may not use the CVR recordings for purposes other than accident investigation.

Quoting Fr8mech (Reply 2): Used to pull them after each flight ad during maintenance engine runs and taxi.

Some CVR's have an erase button.. always wondered if it's a dummy or if it really works.. helps you to distinguish if it's a pilot friendly airplane or not (joke)!

If it was up to me, I'd remove all erase buttons. I can't imagine they'd be allowed if the CVR had been invented today.
The Erase button works when pushed with Parking brake set. However the Regulatory Authorities have issued a Mandatory mod out here to deactivate this mechanism by removing the Connection to the particular card to avoid misuse.Rightly so.

Usually its only used for test functions. Besides, its usually the FDR that hangs you, not the CVR.
