I was wondering how airlines go about painting their rented planes. For example, the sun country planes rented from transavia say sun country on them, but i'm guessing it costs a lot of money to paint the plane every winter. Do they just use a big sticker?

Easy, they can send the aircraft to AMA or Dothan, AL and have a full paint job done just like any other airliner.
A Safe Flight Begins With Quality Maintenance On The Ground.
Its called "Leased" Aircaft.
The Operator when having leased the Aircraft from the owner can get the aircraft painted if needed at their own cost if required, unless the leased agreement has a clause against this.
Most painting is carried out at a Major check,as grounding an aircraft for painting would not be very economical, unless the airlines schedule can afford it.

Most of the seasonal swaps I've seen rarely repaint. Here in BOS we see Miami Air and Ryan International for charter flights in the winter. The planes are in their Euro owners' colors.

Here's a great example of the exact same plane. Photos were taken only 4 months apart.
As you can see, the paint job is the same, just different decals. I do find it funny that they also take the time/expense to add the Sun Country logo to the winglets. Seems like a minor thing.
