Hey all,
Recently, I flew on a 737-500 and was supposed to have a window seat, but there was no window in my row. My window would have looked out at the intake of the engine, probably right around where the fan blades would be. Why wasn't there a window? i've noticed this about other 737's too. Does it have something to do with the fan blades being right there? Thank you.

The distribution channels for the airco system are located there, coming from the airco system in the belly and going to the ceiling where the "fresh air" comes out.

Another reason why there are no windows in one row of a B737 300-900 is that row in the plane is re-inforced. If the engine fan has an uncontained failure, the debris will not enter the a/c.

To learn from the guys above that the reason for the missing window is because it's where the airconditioning lines are routed, as well as this area being re-inforced incase of an uncontained engine failure, is pretty interesting. Good info.
As mentioned above...why are other jets NOT missing a window in the "Engine Burst Zone"? Are they not re-inforced against flying shrapnel from a catastrophic engine failure? Especially aircraft like the DC-9, F-100, B-727 etc, that have their engines located right beside the aft passengers heads!
I've never noticed this special feature on the "Thunder Guppy". I hope I never get that seat on a 737.

Make a note of this. Row 22 on Delta 757s has no window. I recently had to rebook my connection out of ATL due to the late arrival of the last Delta L-1011 flight. Originally I picked my own seat from an on-line seat map, but by rebooking at the counter I didn't have access to one. So I asked the agent if there were any window seats left, and he said yes, I could have 22F. Window seat, my foot. It was a wall seat. I was very disappointed, so after the door was shut, I moved to 21A. There was a lady in 21C who was quite angry with me for moving there, because she wanted all three seats to herself. But I don't think these wall seats should be given to someone who asks for a window seat.

Hi L1011. If I found myself in that situation, I would have been very disapointed too! (we've all heard about "Air Rage", well how about "Ground Rage"! ...just kidding .
I find it facinating that YOU have the ability to book your own seat via an on-line seat map, but the agent at the Airline booking counter didn't have the ability to look at a map and see that seat 22F has NO window.
With regard to the angry lady in seat 21C...it's to bad you didn't have a huge "coconut cream pie" to give her as a peace offering. If she wanted ALL 3 seats to herself that badly...it probably had something to do with the size of her butt!
I agree with you 100%. You shouldn't be given a wall seat when you've been promised a window.
