As we all know, alot of airlines release seats available for their preffered members 24hrs in advance if they arent sold, and usually you can upgrade the first class for a nominal fee. I m flying a us airways flight tomorrow and the web check in hadn't free'd up those bulk heads and emergency rows. I flew tuesday same thing but when I got to the airport all those seats were there for the taking. Now, I just flew with them a few months ago and I could nail those seats if they were available, The lady on the phone said they cant release them on the internet because they have to see whos booking them...I always remember the statement you had to read when you booked those online. IS this something new with them? Thanks for any info

Sorry this disn't really answer your question, but i just booked northwest ticket in economy and was able to book seats both for the international and domestic flights 2 months in advance! Is this just a preferred seat or confirmed?
I noticed they had blocked out certain seats too, i just assumed these were taken, but it was probably because of the reason you mentioned.

The reason why is at some airports, like mine, we block those seats at least 24 hours before departure to have those seats in our control. Why you might ask? Simple. Elderly pax, disabled pax, families with infants. I honestly wish that it would be a system wide thing that those seats can only be assigned day of departure at the airport or at the gate. It would make it soo much easier with those nice little families that are heading to disney world and they want to sit together, but when they booked their ticket on expedia and such it changes their seat assignments around soo much that by the time they check in they are not even sitting together, and when the flight is full and you only have middle seats or no seats left, there isn't much you can do for them, so thats why we agents blocking those seats cures the headache and ear chewing that can be caused by an angry parent with their 5 year old sitting separate from them.
