Where are Qantas' crew bases (outside of Australia)?

Does Qantas have their own ramp workers at bases outside of Australia? Who work the ramps at destinations outside of Australia that are not bases?

Does Qantas employ crew members who are not Australian residents?

Does Qantas fly any 777 variant? If not, why not?

Thanks,

David

No because they have not found a requirement to purchase the plane. They are the only airline who was involved in the design of the plane who don't operate it.

Yes

AKL, BKK, LHR at least, there may be others. These are certainly crew bases for cabin crew, flight deck crew I am not sure about.

No. It never quite fitted their requirements. Some people belive that if not for the Asian financial crises in the late 1990s QF would have brought B772ERs, but instead brought cheap second hand B744s and then B744ERs. Personally I think that may be wishful thinking, but don't really know.

B767 and B747 flight crew are all based in SYD.

A330 flight crew can be SYD or MEL

B737 flight crew can be SYD, MEL or BNE.

Not sure about JQ.

- What about LAX? I have seen a few 744s there at the same time a few times in the past. Plus, is not LAX a stopping point between their SYD to JFK flights? It would make sense to have both a deck crew and cabin crew base there, although not too populated.

Flight crew for the Daily (flight 108 I believe) service to JFK is staffed by Australia-based crews.

There is also a 767 Tech Crew base in CNS.

For Cabin Crew QF have bases in BKK/AKL/LHR and a few crew in NRT.

Oops!! That came out of the Australian Airlines venture, I presume.

7, I believe. Under Japanese law, they can't be made redundant.

Could you please elaborate on this point. Would this be for all of Japan or is this exclusive to QF.At uni, i did a unit on employment relations and industrial relations in Japan, and i can not remember anything in relation to that.

I don't think it's all of Japan. Perhaps under the terms of their employment, it's a lifetime deal. I'm sure QF would rather give them a redundancy than keep such a small crew base.
