Does KL operate any of their MD-11s on routes between Europe or are they solely on intercontinental routes?
I would like to ride on one of these birds before it is taken out of duty, and will be in Europe this summer.

The only rare occasion you will see and md-11 or 747 flying within europe is on let's say for example a foggy day. Most likely LHR. They just do that so they can clear all the passengers who are stuck at once.

AY has used MD-11 on the domestic routes to Lapland, occasionally during the skiing season in February-March.
The first MD-11 is leaving AY's fleet in the end of this year, all will be gone by the spring 2010.

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 5): I remember that SR used to fly the MD-11 to ARN back in the 90s. Why did they use the MD-11 on intra European routes?
I recall SR used the MD-11 for quite a while on one of their morning flights ZRH-LHR-ZRH. It was probably one of their peak demand flights on that route with a lot of business traffic. And since the aircraft would have arrived from a longhaul flight early in the morning and probably didn't depart on another longhaul flight until sometime in the early afternoon, it had time to make the round trip to LHR when it would otherwise be parked.
