Hey guys, in response to heavymetal's "dirty jetliners" post, when IS Delta going to paint the rattiest of old old livery airplanes??? They do look crappy. Better yet, why hasen't Delta painted all of their planes in the new NEW livery yet? I don't understand why management wants to keep all three liveries around. It makes absolutely no sense. Anybody know???

I'm sure that Delta does it much the same way United does...they paint the airplanes when they are scheduled to go in for heavy maintenance...usually every five years.

DL doesn't paint aircraft at heavy check.

Right now we have one paint line in ATL. We have three hanger bays that can be used for paint but two are being used for other maintenance. It takes from 4-7 days to strip/paint depending on type.

This fall two paint lines will be established at PAE. They did many of the ER fleet there last winter. One or two more lines will be done by someone at PHX. This winter a lot of airplanes will finally get painted. We are also retiring quite a few in the fall so even more old paint jobs will disappear
