I was scouring over the internet and found some technical data on the Cessna 402C. It shows the max baggage weights for specific locations on the airplane...

Avionics Bay……..……… 250 Lbs (less installed equipment)
Nose Compartment...... 350 Lbs (less installed equipment)
Aft Cabin “A” shelf…..... 100 Lbs (50 Lbs per side)
Aft Cabin “B” shelf…..... 400 Lbs (200 Lbs per side)
Wing Lockers…………… 200 Lbs or 120 short locker (per side)

My question is, is the avionics bay and nose compartment all in the nose? Are the two compartments separated or do they just invisibly separate the the two?

As for the Aft cabin A and B shelf. What exactly does that mean? From pictures I've seen of the 402C, if you have an 8 seat interior there isn't any space in the back to put bags is there?

Has anybody worked for an airline like Cape Air or loaded a 402? How many bags or cargo do you think you can actually fit in that nose area just considering it's size?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have info on the 402, but I do have info on the 414. Not sure if they're the same, but I suspect there are plenty of similarities.

In the 414, yes. The avionics bay is just aft of the nosecone, and the nose baggage compartment is just behind that. Both are located forward of the pressure bulkhead.

Weight & balance charts specify different stations for the "avionics cargo" area and the "nose cargo" area. FS 32.00 and FS 71.00, respectively.

In the 414, the avionics bay is separated by a single, one-piece panel, but I think some are located underneath the baggage area floor.

Well, I finally just decided to scan this for you...pictures speak louder than words:

Big version: Width: 704 Height: 524 File size: 68kb

My study guide states that the aft cabin baggage area has a capacity of approximately 500 pounds distributed evenly side to side. It also states that the weight of seats seven and eight or the aft refreshment cabinet must be subtracted from the total baggage weight weight allowable in this area.

I know this is all 414 info, but hopefully it will help you out.

Thank you. That helps shed a little light on it all. Appreciate it.
