A tier-one supplier (GKN) to Airbus believes that the wrong type of resin material has been chosen for the A350's wing spars and urging Airbus to reconsider its decision and proposes
Cytec's 977-2 resin material as it is technically superior to Hexcel's M21E, which was selected on the A350.
I would request experts to put their comments on the superiority of the new proposal against the one selected.
Some questions also come into my mind, such as:
1) Will Airbus reconsider? As they have already confirmed the material.
2) If yes, then what will be the impact on the structure and timeframe.
3) What Boeing is using for 787?

WIthout knowing the specific materials, it sounds like GKN's objection is based on manufacturing concerns. Maybe there are design/stress reasons for the different material (e.g. the chosen material has better allowables).

It's not really much help, but the 787 carbon pre-preg seems to be mostly BMS 8-276 (which is a Boeing spec, not a manufacturer's product name). There's still some BMS 8-256/8-392, and others (like us on our resin-infused parts) use their own material systems.
