Hi everyone,

I would like to know a little bit about the test pilots that test fly the big jets after overhauls and other major work.

How many block hours do they log per year? At what altitudes do they fly? How do they train for such a job?

I would really appreciate any info on this.

thanks
ct

Do you mean Boeing Test Pilots?

I think those are ex-military

But if you mean airline pilots after heavy checks than I think those are Chief Pilots are something.

>> At what altitudes do they fly?<<

I heard they do all the checks in the traffic pattern at 1000ft AGL.

Majority of airlines use their own pilots. Each airline have their own procedures determining who performs the Maintenance Check Flights.
The flight profile is determined by the extent of the check flight. Typically all operating altitudes are used in order to perform the appropriate checks. For example, 737 flight control tests begin at 35,000 ft for high speed trim tests and conclude at 10,000 ft for low speed dirty (gear and flaps extended) test.
