Question About Being An Airline Dispatcher

Hello I found this school on google http://www.airlinedispatcher.com/ I live about 10 mins from that place. I want to start in the class in aug.

My question is how likely will I be able to get hired by American or Southwest in Dallas if I go to this program? I work for American at KAFW and have been working with American for a little over a year.
I don't want to spend the money if there is not a pretty good possibility of getting hired soon after I complete the program. Anybody been to this school or work in dispatching that can give me a heads up on that question?

Thanks Mike

Most likely about a 1% chance. I don't know about American, but I know that Southwest only hires internals that have zero experience. They have called out for externals, but only those with experience. Check with your HR department. They will know the answers about that.

If they will not, then your best bet is with a regional, or small cargo outfit. There are a few openings out there at the regionals, so staying within this industry is not bleak; however, the best carriers haven't hired in a long while, but that does not mean they won't again.

Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

I don't know about AA or WN but I will say something about United, since judging by your username you have some affection to.

Right now its 0% for UA, I just went to CHIDD in February and some of the guys I jumpseated with as well as the head of dispatch said their are laying off right now. I don't remember the exact numbers nor the seniority dates but IIRC there was something like 50 when I went and the cuts had just started. They do dispatch for another "very big" operation and that helps out a bit but overall its not to good.

I will say Hawaiian had a few spots open last fallish and that was the only "major" I saw looking around for fun.

Hello thanks for the info on that. I will hold on doing it for now then maybe the economy will pick up and maybe they will hire again.

Heck I would still do it myself....... that way you will be in a better position when the boom comes around again and not "well I will be certified in 3 months" sort of deal.

Plus I get the feeling that your banking on AA or WN right out of school and the simple fact is..... its probably not going to happen. You very rarely get right on with a major. Its got to be the "right time right place" type of deal for that to work out. Its similar to taking out a 3 million dollar loan and banking on winning the lottery to pay it off. Granted the odds are a bit better for dispatch
