For the gate you also have to take length into account.
At ARN we have a 65m wide gate (gate 69) which has a limit of 61 m length
so it cannot take a B777, unless the tower close the taxyway behind it, which they usually do as the taxyway goes nowhere.

Wingtip clearances are done in one of two ways. A straight 25-Feet or the taxilane dimension method which is Wingspan * .1 + 10. At long linear locations I've seen them use the taxiway method which is the Wingspan * .2 +10.
