Hey There:
Noticed this picture of the cabin of an LY 744, and I couldn't help but notice that it has the side paneling that the Classic 747s had. I also noticed it seems a bit weird about the window shades, they almost look as if they were closed on the outside. Can anyone help?

Doesn't even look like they're in an aircraft....The shades do appear to be on the outside, there is no EM lighting strip on the floor, no vents at the bottom of the wall panels, and the seats don't look installed normally, and no seat tracks....also, the window on the far right has a deep wall against it.

My vote is this picture is taken during a Heavy Check. And it is a mock up using the aircraft interior for marketing pictures. If you look at the right hand upper corner of the picture there is an window with out a cover on it. The cover on the outside of the windows is for glare from the flash and lighting, Window shades most of the time roll up in the side wall and come out wrinkled and may have slight difference in color. Also with the covering on the outside of the windows the graphic art dept. can come back and photoshop any location they want for the pictures.
So it's looks like a real airplane but the carpet is just layed out and the seat tracks are not bolted to the floor, even if the seats are still in tracks.

It looks like the seats are angled toward the camera. The seat tracks are not parallel to the carpet seam.

Don't know about El Al cabins, but the aircraft is probably ELC not ELB.
Checking the acars logs for around the 13 Sept '09, 4X-ELB was on the LY8 from JFK to TLV then LY1 back to JFK, presumably having flown to JFK on the 12th.

4X-ELC wasn't picked on ACARS from the 31 Aug to the 17 Sept.

More so because the photographer of the OP photo also has ELC in maintenance on the same day (Sep 13).

Even stranger: there are no tabs for the window shades, open or closed.

Quoting HAWK21M (Reply 10):
Could be new windows with their external blanks are in place & the linings just placed there for the photoshoot.
New windows on a 747 classic interior panel?
BTW, off-topic, but those 747 Classic interior panels are, IMHO, the best interior for any aircraft ever. I love the recessed lighting over each window. Bring that interior back, Boeing!

I think that is the case and what we are seeing is the protective film over the outside of the window that is applied for shipping.

Thats what I meant.new outer pane which has the centre blanking [Scratch guard] in place & is removed only at the last moment before leaving the hangar.

I was reminded of this thread because a nice unique photo of the APU exhaust of 4X-ELC (dated Sept 13th, same photographer) is on the A.Net homepage as one of the currently most viewed photos.
There appears to have been no change made (yet) to the photo that prompted the OP of this thread.

It is certainly not ELB nor ELC nor ELA or any other "4X-EL____" because those planes are 744s and the wall panels on the above photo are those of a 747-200 (El Al never had pax 741s or 743s).
To compare once more, here are two pics of a 744 interior:
Is it one of the old 742s to which El Al tried to give a "modernized" look by removing the colored walls in the late 1990s.....? Is it a model in which air crews are learning? I don't know..... maybe the photographer will tell us. But for sure, it is not 4X-ELB as indicated; there is clearly "something wrong" with this indication.
thanks.
I bitterly miss the livery that should never have been changed (repetition...)
