This question is in regard to some research I am doing related US domestic (part 121 operation) flights operated by regional airlines with CRJ-200s:
Is there any regulation that requires flight and cabin crews to be on board the aircraft a certain amount of time before the scheduled departure or before passengers may board? Also, are there mandatory briefings?
In my own experience, crews sometimes arrive very shortly before the flight (often they come right from another flight they either worked or ferried on) and have virtually no time to prepare for the PAX.

At Republic, in base report at the beginning of a trip is 45 mins prior to departure. On an overnight it is 30 mins. And we are not required by our company to begin the boarding process until 20 minutes prior to departure. At another airline I worked for it was 1 hour and 1 hour.

Why regional only?
At my airline base "showtime" is 60 minutes and we must be at the gate 45 minutes prior to EDT. So we have 15 minutes to pre-flight equipment before guests board. It's different on layovers. There is no need to pre-flight again if we are continuing on same A/C.
We brief twice, before arriving to the gate and either at or on the plane at the start of the day or if crew change.
Just because that is what my research is focused on. I am looking at a particular airline and station. I assume that rules might be different for these regional airlines than they are for mainline carriers as oftentimes jets get turned around in less than thirty minutes and they still manage to perform a crew change.
