Curious SAS 747

SAS B747 fleet was composed by 283B and B Combi models. All were equiped with the P&W JT9D7Q engines except LN-RNA and SE-DFZ who were equiped with P&W JT9D-70A

These two B747 had only 3 and 5 windows on the right side beetween the door 1 and 2. But on the attached picture, it is possible to see a JT9D-70A powered SAS B747 with all the window range beetween the two doors...

Any info about this???

SAS later installed the transverse galley which was located between door 1 and 2 on the right side.

Other carriers like KLM, Thai also use this galley setup.

If memory serves, by the time you got to the -200 747s they all had the full set of windows. However some operators had them plugged except for 3 or 5 for commonality with the rest of the fleet.


While we are on SK 747s, one of them was called "Huge Viking", a little pun based on the English meaning. "Huge" is an old fashioned Nordic name, in keeping with the SK naming tradition.
