Came across the archived discussion about the possible end of the 340 line and it got me thinking: how much parts commonality is there among families with multiple variants? For simplicity, let's keep it at currently produced/available models (so include 736, 318, 346, etc.). I'd be interested to see if, for example, there is more difference between a 343 and 346 (or a 77A and 77W) vs. a 736 and 739ER (or 318 vs 321).

It really depends which "family" you're talking about, since the manufacuters bend that definition to varying degrees with different models.
The A318 through 321 and 737-600 through -900 have extremely high commonality, probably the most of any of the families out there.

That's what I figured. I chose the comparison to the widebody families because I figure an A318 is probably closer to an A321 than a 77A is to a 77W or 77L.
