Why Did Spoilers REmain Deployed During Taxi

When my United 777 landed at Washington IAD, the spoilers remained deployed throughout the taxi and parking. Later, I noticed the plane at the gate and the spoilers remained deployed?

Any explanations?

Maybe maintenance needed to check the spoilers and asked the flightcrew to keep them extended.

Some sort of mechanical problem. Had it happen a couple of times on the 757 - the spoiler lever had been placed in the down position during taxing to stand after landing, but they physically remained up. Wrote it up in the tech log and left it to engineering to deal with.

Most times the spoilers will auto-stow with the application of a bit of throttle, that is if they've auto-deployed having been set in the armed position prior to landing.

Well, I know that spoilers will stay deployed up to 30 seconds after landing when set to auto mode on some aircraft. It does this incase the a/c bounces, so that the spoilers don't retract if it goes WOW.
Their main purpose is to dump the lift created by the wing, and having them retract if the plane bounced would make the landing run longer.

On some aircraft it is after a certain speed, say 45 knots. (Can't remember if that is IAS or GS)

Pilots probably just didn't get around to unarming the ground spoilers during taxi in. You probably saw the spoilers come up and down a few times as power was applied and reduced during taxi. In simple terms, most aircraft have a ground spoiler arm switch. When the ground spoilers are armed, there is weight on the wheels, and throttles are idle, the ground spoilers will deploy. It's is somewhat common for a crew to forget to unarm the ground spoilers during the after landing check, thus causing the boards to go up and down during taxi.

While not a 757, our Gulfstreams get parked with flaps at 20 degrees (lowered on taxi in with engines running) to save wear and tear on the aux pump and batteries when maintenance has to lower them for postflight, preflight, and any other maintenance.

You won't see the spoiler move up and down in the B777 due to thrust changes.

Twenty bucks says when the power levers are advanced the spoilers will retract. Even during taxi in you advance the power levers another for the spoilers to retract. So my money is on the fact that they had a mechanical issue. The nice thing about the 777 is you can do checks of the systems right there in the cockpit using the MAT.
