PAPI, as well as every other type of visual glideslope indicator, are mearly a set of lights that are angled and shielded in such a way that you see red or white depending on your angle to the lights.

well from my little understanding there are two lights and there are codes to tell you if u r too high/low or on track. if the to lights are red u are two low if both lights are white u are two high adn if one light is red and the other is white u are good to land

PAPI is short for Precision Approah Path Indicator.
it looks like this: O O O O / \O O O O
basically, it tells you your approach angle, and gives you 5 indications of your angle.
I like this system, but there is nothing better than to eyeball it yourself!

I've never heard about what you're about, but there are 5 different visual system (6 if you include your internal system!).
