Really simple system. In the wing tank plumbing there is an additional valve with a discharge tube on the trailing edge of the wing. Tank fuel pumps on, valve open and fuel (hopefully) runs out. DC-10, the discharge tubes are just outboard of the flaps and inboard of the ailerons. (Outboard ailerons).
