Does anyone know why American Eagle taking delivery of Bombardier jets when they already have ordered over 130 EMBRAER ERJ 135LRs,140LRs,145MRs,and ERJ145LRs? You would think that since they have so many of one type, they would want to maintain fleet commonality. Seems like a waste of $$$ on aircraft and training. Confused

I was told by someone in the training dept it had to do with being able to get the amount of jets they wanted within the time they needed them. Embraer couldn't do it. Money was also a factor.

I was told awhile ago that American Eagle learned from the fatal accident involving the ATR 72 a few years ago.

Following the grounding of the type and the subsequent restrictions from operating in known icing conditions, the SAAB 340 fleet picked up the slack and kept revenue flowing in.

They recognized that having a diverse fleet can help when one model is subject to any flight restriction.
