My wife is on DL 0014 to FRA sitting at the gate again. They were delayed because of the nasty weather from ATL north and pushed back late. While taxiing, apparently one of the wipers failed and they just returned to the gate. Any word on how long it takes to fix something like that or if an equipment swap will be necessary?

It is N841MH, a 764ER.

They are still on the ground (~3.5 hours late.) Any word from you Delta guys at ATL?

I looked it up in the MEL. If there is precipitation anticipated, windshield wipers cannot be deferred.

So, the answer is "however long it takes to fix it." Sometimes a seemingly simple fix can turn into something more a pain in the butt to fix.

edit: just an addendum: the specific phrasing is that rain cannot be in the FORECAST within 5 nm of the airport. That's pretty dang restrictive. There's always a reason behind the madness.

They took off about an hour ago. I wonder if they fixed the wiper or if the weather just cleared. Thanks for the clarification on the procedural stuff!
