Hi folks,

I have a simple question to the Boeing fans here on A.Net.

After looking at these two pictures...

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Boeing/Boeing-747-8KZF-SCD/1941492/L/

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Boein...Boeing-787-8-Dreamliner/1942153/L/

... I'm just wondering why Boeing didn't take advantage of the 787 project/experience to "refresh" the cockpit of the newborn 747-8 with the outstanding and state-of-art cockpit seen on the 787?

Is there anybody here able to explain this choice by Boeing?

The reason was to keep as much commonality with the 747-400 so that Pilots could easily switch between the two.

It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Most likely to keep commonality with the existing 747. In that regard, does anyone know if the 748 is a variant or a new type?

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and ther

Of course the 747-8 will have the same type rating as the 747-400.

The other reason was to keep developments costs lower. The 747-8 was supposed to be a low cost derivate of the 747-400. To put in the 787s flight deck would have been a very expensive development project, especially since the displays and software would have had to be developed for four engines.
