Hi all. Not sure where to post this, Mods please move to Tech/Ops if you think is more appropriate.

FAA issued an AD for the 737 classics including series 300/400/500 for earlier and more frequent inspection of the fuselage after a series of cracks in similar places of the structure.

Although the number of active frames of this types is fading and the airlines are phasing out this models, I guess we have still some airlines with several classics in their fleets.

"Several"? There are probably over 1000 classics flying.

I believe that the article quoted 605 frames with US registry alone. I do not know how many are still in service.

rwessel 1,000 frame estimate may even be an under estimate.

From the AD the issue was well known before they just shortened up the cycles between inspections with a 90 period for first reinspect. The inspection does not sound that involved but I absolutely have no idea how easily the area can be exposed for inspection.

A Flight International report listed a fleet of 1,882 classic 737s in 2005 (out of 1,988 built):

The oldest of those are now 26 years old, so there are definitely now some retirements, but the youngest are only 13 years, and will be around for quite a while yet.

The same report also lists 675 jurassic 737s, although a bunch of those have gone away in the last five years.

Yes, I didn't explain my self right. What I mean is that there are only a few ( small ) airlines where the 737 classic is the majority of the fleet ( that was the case of the defunct Adam Air of Indonesia with 22 aircraft IIRC ).

The number of active frames is still very high, and I'm happy with that, I think this are fantastic aircraft with much more "romantic" cockpits and I love them.
