Its the NW/KLM Alliance paint scheme. It was painted on a DC-10, I think, to say something about their alliance. My 2 cents.

They removed it because it confused ATC and other aircraft around it. "Speedbird 577 Heavy taxi behind KLM DC-10." Then it would chnage to NW and everyone would get confused.
