I've long since given up hope that Poland will cease publishing via the notams what airlines will be refused entry into their airspace. But perhaps this one takes the cake over those:

TNCC HATO M0048/11 - BIRD BATH CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE. 20 DEC 13:57 2011 UNTIL 20 FEB 20:00 2012.
CREATED: 20 DEC 13:58 2011

Damn glad they told me that so I can make sure my bird is clean before I go there.

Anybody else have one?

I printed off a PIREP many years ago where an A310 crew reported a meteorite passing underneath the airplane on the arrival into MEM.

Maybe I'm missing something in your post, but I don't see this NOTAM as being stupid. They've NOTAM'd that the Bird Bath is Closed. Do you know what a Bird Bath is, and how pertinent it is to aircraft preventative maintenance?

Erm... What's wrong with that? Isn't NOTAM a Notice to Airmen? If I were an airman from such a restricted airline It'd be rather an useful information for me that I can't fly somewhere, wouldn't it?

So he doesn't feel alone... I've never heard of nor seen a 'bird bath' in my life. Is that type of thing restricted to only certain types?

Being an oceanside airport, it is possible that the closure of the the bird bath might be a concern to some operators who want to rinse the salt water off, particularly if they plan on making a special trip to stop for that purpose.

Relevant mostly to Naval or coastal patrol aircraft. It is used to wash salt spray off of the aircraft to prevent corrosion...

Perhaps stupid is not quite the word dxing was looking for. Silly sounding, might have been better. There are plenty of things that sound silly, but in reality make perfect sense.

Not a NOTAM, but near where I learned to fly one of the frequent calls was "Report by the Oyster". I always thought it was funny. The name is such because the reporting point is the mouth of the Oyster River.

As long as the number of take-offs equals the number of landings...you're doing fine.

Does the lack of the bird bath affect operations? It falls a little short of an ILS out of service, or a closed runway.
As to the Polish question, the individual airline Ops should know whether they are in good graces with the Polish aviation authorities. Go check their FIR notams sometime. Solid, neccessary information is obscured. Poland is the only FIR that I know of that does this.

If I need a particular piece of equipment or service I call ahead to make sure it is there, available, and operating.
