Hello,

I am currently looking for my first job in the airline industry, as I'm completing a Masters Degree in Operational Research.

I came across this website for the British Airways graduate programme
http://www.britishairwaysgraduates.com/

Does anybody have any experience of this program? Are there any other similar schemes at other European airlines?

Many, many airlines has CO-OP programs. I can't speak for the carriers on your side of the big pond but in the US, most to all major airlines has such programs. Delta for example has a bunch of "graduate geared" jobs posted. Everything from airport cutomer service management, to flight ops (mostly aspiring pilots), to maintenance, IT, and engineering. It's a great way to get your foot in the door and get to know the right people.

How can one apply for these programs?

Careers section of Delta.com (bottom of the main page) and if you're an employee just log into the E-Bid.

BA apparently want to recruit around 600 new pilots over the next 10 years to cover retirements so if you're in the position to apply you have nothing to lose.

FlyBe might also be woth a try, much smaller than BA but worth a look

Good luck!

I applied to the BA OR graduate program after graduating from college with an MSc in Operational Research. Unfortunately, they did not take one single candidate during the year I applied. Ironically, I ended up working for an airline based in another continent.

My suggestion for you is to go to conferences in OR and get to meet people working in the industry. Network as much as you can. Try joining AGIFORS.

Good luck!
