Air Cargo Ops: Empty Flights Into Asia?

Wondering whether the air cargo has ballast legs like in the shipping industry, ie substantially empty flights heading to major cargo origination points from minor/insignificant cargo origination points. All those flights heading into HKG/ICN for example, I should imagine most are pretty empty.

Also, in terms of USD revenue, what are:

- the top ten goods/commodities transported by air cargo;
- the top ten cargo origination airports; and
- the top ten cargo destination airports?

You can google your questions yourselve.

What do you mean by "in terms of US$ revenue" ? Freight frevenue or goods value'? The goods vakue by destinaiton countries can be found by the bureaus of statistics of the originating countries, you may even find it there plit up by air and ocean.

The freight revenues are internal companby statistics which are none of the publics business.

There may be empty all cargo flights to the far east and the bellies of passenger flights may not be full to capacity, however, when making bookings, it is always amazing to find how full flights are for "Freight All Kinds"

FAK is BTW the most transported commodity.

Most all? cargo flights between USA & Australia are routed USA-Australia-Asia-USA. The Australia-Asia leg is often empty or lightly loaded.

Looking at HKG, a major cargo transfer point in the region, empty flights would be bad. To my knowledge all 747-8F operators fly to HKG for example. Are they all flying (half) empty?

certainly not. There have been times in the past where freight was flown for free plus security and fuel surcharges. But only largte ccnsignments. There's enough small shipments usually on hand plus the premium time sensitive freight plus the westboud flights to make a round trip pay the costs.
