Hi everyone,

Two questions regarding operations at MSP based Sun Country:

1. Sun Country flies two variants of the 737: the 700 and the 800.
According to the tech specs below, they both have a 2600NM range. Doesn't the 700 have additional range compared to the 800 because it is lighter and carries the same amount of fuel? On the tech sheet they don't specify whether the range is with a full load of passengers or payload restrictions.

2. Sun Country flies to LGW, the only place in Europe they fly to. I know they are based in MSP, but does the NG737 fly MSP-LHR nonstop? They must be making a tech stop somewhere. If you look at the map below, it just shows a direct link from MSP to LGW with no stop in between. I don't think that's possible because the 737 is the only aircraft Sun Country flies.

And third question: why didn't they buy the 767-300ER when the retired the DC-10? That would have been the perfect airplane for their long haul operations.

Anybody working for Sun Country?

They fly to LGW via Gander (they make a fuel stop).

Window seats may be over-rated, but I'll take a window seat on a DC9 anyday

Oh I see. I knew they had to make a tech stop somewhere. But I can understand why they don't specify that on their destination map because people might think they can buy a ticket to Gander. That's why I was mentioning they should have bought 767s new or used, just a couple of them, for their flight to LGW. Maybe they want to be a LLC like Southwest but smaller, that may be why they are not buying any other aircraft. Thanks for your answer.

According to some rumors it may seem Sun Country will not be coming back to the UK this year and maybe for good (which is such a shame as I loved seeing them here at LGW!). From what I have heard in another thread is that the London route was only retained as long as it was to assure ETOPS qualification for upcoming Hawaii charters for the 738's, so that also explains why they did not get any bigger aircraft.

Hopefully in the future they follow Allegiant and get some 757's and come back to LGW full time!
