Freddy Heineken, of Heineken NV died on 4 November aged 78. In 1997 he claimed that if each of the world's 55,000 daily commercial flights sprayed 1,000 litres of his Heineken into the atmosphere it could repair the hole in the ozone layer. Anyone heard this before or got any thoughts?

I have always considered Heineken beer to be pretty light beer.

But I did't know that it is lighter than air!

(It has to be so to be able to climb by itself from 30-40,000 feet up into the ozone layer).

Cheers, Preben Norholm

I think it's safe to assume he meant that as a joke.

Well, I do my part to prevent the hole from getting bigger, I use gel instead of hairspray.
